Hey there! Welcome to my first sketch blog! I’m a self-taught independent artist based in Hong Kong, and I’m super excited to share my creative journey with you. In this blog, I’ll talk about how I come up with ideas, what inspires me, and, of course, showcase my sketches. I’ll also dive into some of the challenges I face, like creative blocks—because let’s be real, we all have those moments!
I mostly work digitally, but I love going back to traditional art whenever I need to brainstorm concepts or practice drawing characters and environments. I can’t wait to share this artistic adventure with you!
I’ve recently been rewatching Monster on Netflix, and I can’t get enough of it! For those who might not know, it’s a psychological thriller based on Naoki Urasawa's manga. What makes Monster so captivating is its realistic setting, primarily in Germany, which adds a layer of authenticity to the narrative. The series dives deep into themes of morality, the nature of evil, and the psychological complexities of its characters, making you question everything as the plot unfolds. It tackles issues like identity, societal pressure, and the impacts of war, which resonate with real-world experiences and make it all the more relatable. Plus, it’s clear how much research and effort went into creating this masterpiece.
This time around, I wanted to focus on practicing my character drawing since my work usually leans more toward animals and environments. I used Nina as a reference for my character sketches. I’m still on a journey to discover my own style when it comes to character design. I find myself struggling to strike a balance—while I don’t want to overly simplify my characters’ faces, I also hesitate to make them too realistic. It’s all about finding that sweet spot, and I’m excited to keep experimenting along the way!
